Jesus meets people where they are. You don’t have to “clean up” fear, confusion, or doubt before coming to Jesus. Uncertainty and skepticism are not barriers to his presence in your life. Remember that doubt is not the opposite of faith. Thomas stayed engaged, and Jesus met him there. Pray for opportunities to create space for your friends and family members to have curiosity about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will lead you.

LOOK:

Our salvation rests entirely on Christ’s completed work, not our performance. We don’t add to the cross with good works, morality, or religious effort. This frees us as believers from guilt-driven obedience and replaces it with grateful obedience. So we are invited to stop trying to earn what Christ has already secured. Guard ourselves from legalism and performance-based Christianity.

Another consideration is that God is always in control – even in suffering. What looks chaotic is often sovereign. God is not reacting to evil but reigning over it. Our darkest moments may be fulfilling purposes we cannot yet see. Accordingly, let’s trust God when circumstances feel unjust or senseless. Let’s remember that God’s sovereignty doesn’t remove pain, but redeems it. Our story is not “out of control!”

LOOK:

From the human standpoint, the trial of Jesus was the greatest crime and tragedy in history. From the divine viewpoint, it was the fulfillment of prophecy and the accomplishment of the will of God. The fact that God had planned all of this did not absolve the participants of their responsibility. In fact, at Pentecost, Peter put both ideas together in one statement! (Acts 2:23)

When Israel asked to have a king, and God gave them Saul, the nation rejected God the Father (1 Sam. 8:5–7). When they asked for Barabbas, they rejected God the Son. Today, they are rejecting the pleading of God the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51; Rom. 10:21). Yet there will come a day when they shall see their King, believe, and be saved (Zech. 12:10–11; Matt. 24:30; Rev. 1:7). Both the nation and the governor were on trial, and both failed miserably. May we not fail!

LOOK:

This is a good lesson to us: we need never fear the cups that the Father hands to us. To begin with, our Savior has already drunk the cup before us, and we are only following in His steps. We need never fear what is in the cup because the Father has prepared it for us in love. If we ask for bread, He will never give us a stone; and the cup He prepares will never contain anything that will harm us. We may suffer pain and heartbreak, but He will eventually transform that suffering into glory.

There is every reason why believers should love one another and live in unity. We trust the same Savior and share the same glory. We will one day enjoy the same heaven! We belong to the same Father and seek to do the same work, witnessing to a lost world that Jesus Christ alone saves from sin. We believe the same truth, even though we may have different views of minor doctrinal matters; and we follow the same example that Jesus set for His people, to live a holy life. Yes, believers do have their differences; but we have much more in common, and this should encourage us to love one another and promote true spiritual unity.

Jesus is still praying for us! He is our Chief Priest who intercedes for us. Just as he prayed over His disciples before His crucifixion, He now sits at the right hand of God praying that we will be in unity, or one, with Him and the Father. But how Jesus prays for us is a model for how we can engage personal prayer with Him:

We should pray for unity among believers and work towards harmony and love within our own church community and avoiding division.

We should pray for other believers regarding their needs, growth, and protection.

We should pray for those who are spiritually lost. Jesus desired for the world to know that God sent Jesus. This can be a motivation for us to share our faith and testimony with others.
