11.11.12 Who Got the Swing Vote?

My choice for President didn’t win, but I can’t say that I am upset at the outcome. I see elections through a Christian worldview that affirms that God is always in control. Did you know that God is a registered voter? His precinct is the world. Do you realize He votes at every election?

Proverbs 16:33 says, “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”

Romans 13:1 says, “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

These verses may sound like the voting process is mere chances, but God is always in control. We cast our vote, but He carries 51% of the vote at all times. He has the swing vote in every election. So why did we bother to vote? Because we have the privilege to participate with God in His kingdom. He desires to push His story through each of our votes.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “In his heart man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”

Let’s not forget the fact that the Bible contains God’s love story written to us, and He has already told us the ending. Each person was created with a special purpose in mind, and we are right in the middle of His story as its playing out. We aren’t just “extras” on the scene. We have a valuable role while we’re here on Earth. Just as God is writing His story through each of us, God is doing the same thing through Obama’s presidency. We may not always understand why He chooses certain leaders, but His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His ways are higher than our ways (Isa 55:8).

In the end I trust His choices. God used His swing vote to allow Obama another term. This doesn’t change the fact that God will remain at the helm to continue enacting His story to the end. Now we have an obligation to participate in His precinct by praying for our leaders and accepting the outcome. It was His decision.

  1. Thanks, Lee Ann. I am still feeling shocked, angry and sad. Somehow knowing God is in control doesn’t take away those feelings automatically. I know I need to pick my jaw up off the floor, wipe my nose, put on my big-girl panties and be a good christian witness to the world. It mars that witness to go around thinking half the country are idiots. I don’t believe that is true as I have respected members of my family who swing the other way! But still, I somehow feel betrayed. It’s a good lesson, we don’t always get what we pray for, and that is undoubtedly a good thing! God does know what he is doing and often we have to sit in the dark in FAITH. Love you! Keep writing!

    • You’re welcome, Shari. I know that you’re not alone in how you feel about the outcome! I also respect the fact that knowledge of God’s sovereignty doesn’t wipe all of those feelings away just by reading the words. I appreciate that in the midst of loss, you and I can smile that we don’t always get what we pray for, but that is because God has a better plan that we can’t possibly imagine at this point. But I do trust Him, and I believe that He will work out His plan with the current leaders He has allowed into office. Without a doubt, the next four years will be very interesting. More assuredly, the next six weeks will be most interesting to see if two parties can quit digging their heels into their pet paradigms and learn how to compromise so that we don’t fall off the fiscal cliff!

Love you too, Shari! I am still enjoying writing and am loving what I am learning through my writing coach over the last year. She is fabulous!

      Blessings,
      Lee Ann

  2. Thanks Lee Ann! I always appreciate your writings because they are always based in God’s Word and that’s what I want and need most in my life. You help give me the faith I need to carry on.

  3. Not at all how I thought the elections would go, but I said from the beginning, if he is re-elected, it will only be because it’s God’s plan. I think I’m glad I don’t know the details of His plan! I will continue to pray for our country and our leaders and see what unfolds in the next 4 years…if we have 4 more years on earth. No man knows the hour or the day…

    • It may be a rocky ride for awhile, but I do believe God is allowing it for an ultimately benevolent reason. I think the commitment to pray for our leaders is so important. I am guilty of not praying enough for them the last four years, so I am changing that. I pray for pastors daily using three different prayer guides for the month, and I am now on mission to find a monthly prayer guide for the leaders of our country. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject!

      Blessings,

  4. Lee Ann, I am so happy that God is watching over his children and that comforts me greatly after this election. I have to share with you something I just read. Did you know that voter fraud is well and happening in the good ole USA? They said that every 5th vote cast in Ohio inserted O. on the default. They also had 109% people turn-out out of 100%. How do you do that? hum…. Can you say corruption? Same happened in Florida. Now the reports show that 20 states want to succede from the Union & after 25K signatures per state, the President must review it. This would explain how R. lost when he clearly was predicted to win with a small margin. hummm????

I guess I’m just a poor loser. I don’t want obamacare, or higher taxes, or continued high spending from the chosen ones in Washington. I do believe that God will be making some changes, especially if we turn our backs on Isreal.

Just ignore me and what I say. I’m just venting. In my views, I see God taking care of all of this corruption, injust, and greed in his own law. It will be interesting to see “His Truth” unfold. I believe it’s just a matter of time when he chooses to act. I am so happy to be a child of God in the midst of it all!!! I find great peace just knowing that.

Now have a great day! ha Debbie

    • Hi, Debbie:
I don’t think you’re a poor loser! I think you are expressing the deep frustrations of many of us who voted for a change, and it didn’t happen. Instead, we’re reminded of corruption in our news every day. I did see the voter fraud issues, and now the petitions of secession from numerous states. Emotions are riding high and I don’t see the feelings settling quickly. BUT, I do believe that our trust and complete faith have to be in God and trust how He will see us through such a difficult and challenging time in our country. The division in this country is of great concern, but God will see us through it! How will that look? I don’t know! I just know that God has never failed to see us through any challenge.

      Blessings,
      Lee Ann
