Solomon’s prayer of dedication is well-rounded. Notice how he praises God’s character, the covenant relationship between God and Israel, and the presence of God. He also makes specific requests for the people and his concerns of the Israelites. Are we as well-rounded? Let’s make sure we are expressing our praise and adoration of who God is and thank Him for all he does.

Sometimes it is good for us to remember that not all of our good plans will be brought to reality in our own lifetime. In 8:18 Solomon recalled that God said it was good for David to have the building of a Temple in his heart. Our dreams should exceed our grasp. Often others will get the joy of doing what we would like to have done for God.

LOOK:

When we seek God’s will first, he always adds other blessings to us. Solomon’s primary desire for wisdom enabled God to bless him in many other ways, even in spite of his errors. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well” (Matt. 6:33).
