LOOK:

God is always watching. God sees whatever we do. Christians, especially men, must learn to never let their eyes (or their mind) rest on alluring images. David’s failure to control his lusts led to adultery with Bathsheba. The solution to lust is not to fight but to flee. If we don’t flee, we will fall.

“Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.” (v.12) May we be courageous with faith, with trust in God and His leadership of our lives, ultimately knowing that whatever happens is in His hand, and knowing that we can choose to be courageous.

David’s grace to Mephibosheth is also a pattern for us in serving and ministering to others. We are David.

  • We should seek out our enemies and seek to bless them.
  • We should look for the poor, weak, lame, and hidden to bless them.
  • We should bless others when they don’t deserve it and bless them more than they deserve.
  • We should bless others for the sake of someone else.
  • We must show the kindness of God to others.

LOOK:

We should always go to the Lord before making important decisions, or giving counsel to others about important issues. Do not just assume that you know the right answer. Do not just answer with your own opinion, no matter how sure you are of it.

LOOK:

David bringing the ark back to Jerusalem is truly an eye-opening story. The life lessons it teaches help us to be more careful and dependent on God’s direction in life. To recap, the lessons you learned were that ignorance does not excuse us, and you can do the right thing the wrong way, and knowledge builds confidence.

What should surprise us is not that the Lord sometimes executes His wrath immediately but that He does not do so more often. We must be grateful for His gracious restraint when we sin.
