Peter was concerned that the leadership in the local churches be at its best. When the fiery trial would come, the believers in the assemblies would look to their elders for encouragement and direction. What are the personal qualities that make for a successful pastor?

  • Those who are spiritually mature and are willing and eager to serve others
  • Those who are not in it for the money
  • Those who don’t lord it over those who are entrusted to them
  • Those who are examples to the flock

LOOK:

When you endure suffering in the form of persecution, remember the RULES of suffering presented by Peter:

#1: Don’t be surprised at the painful trial you’re suffering as though this is strange.

#2: Rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ.

#3: Consider yourself blessed if you are insulted because of the name of Christ

#4: Suffer for the right reason!

#5: Commit ourselves to our faithful Creator and continue to do good.

If you want to make the best use of “the rest of your time,” live in the light of the return of Jesus Christ. All Christians may not agree on the details of the event, but we can agree on the demands of the experience. We shall stand before the Lord! Read Romans 14:10–23 and 2 Corinthians 5:1–21 for the practical meaning of this.
