LOOK:

God’s holiness is an essential part of His nature. “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Any holiness that we have in character and conduct must be derived from Him. Basically, to be sanctified means to be “set apart for God’s exclusive use and pleasure.” It involves separation from that which is unclean and complete devotion to God (2 Cor. 6:14–7:1). We are to be holy “in all manner of conversation [behavior],” so that everything we do reflects the holiness of God. If something cannot be done to the glory of God, then we can be sure it must be out of the will of God.

LOOK:

Salvation is a gift from the Lord, and it comes with responsibilities. The Spirit is always leading and guiding us to right thinking and proper behavior. This week we learned that we are not to conform to the evil desires we had when we lived in ignorance. God has given us all the tools we need to deal with temptation and the ability to take captive the thoughts that are not from Him.

LOOK:

Salvation is a gift from the Lord, and it comes with responsibilities. It would be easy to walk away from this lesson after reviewing three responsibilities and thinking, “There is no way I can do all of this! I’m sure I’ll miss the mark on many of these.” I want to encourage you not to feel defeated in this. We’re not obeying in our own strength. The Spirit is always leading and guiding us to right thinking and proper behavior. Let’s agree that we will submit our hearts and minds daily to Christ and ask the Spirit to prick our hearts if we are thinking ungodly thoughts or getting ready to misstep. That will be our invitation to obey. If you’re not hearing from the Spirit, then rest with the idea that you’re already in a state of obedience.

If we fulfill our responsibilities with the Spirit’s help, then people will see the change that salvation should bring to God’s children. May people see change in us to God’s glory!

LOOK:

Now that we’ve tagged REASONS why we should appreciate our salvation, I hope we spend time praising and thanking Him for it. It would be an insult to God’s grace if we took our salvation for granted. God made salvation available to us out of His “great mercy” to us. Everything begins with salvation, which allows us to have a personal relationship to God through Jesus Christ. If we know Christ as Savior, then we have living hope! If we have “living hope,” we can overcome and God will transform suffering into glory. Salvation is our foundation. Without it, we would have no hope.

LOOK:

God sent His Son to be our “kinsman-redeemer” for all of His creation. Christ paid for our redemption. What Christ did for us is the largest transaction that has ever been made for us. And let’s be clear on how significant this is. We had a sin debt that we could not pay! The debt against us was not viewed as simply cancelled, but is fully paid. God is a holy and just God. He was not willing to “overlook” or cancel our debt and act like it never happened. Payment for our sin debt was REQUIRED. Christ’s blood or life, which he surrendered for us, is the “ransom” by which He delivered us from being slaves of sin and from its penal consequences is secured. That’s why Christ’s final words on the cross were, “It is finished.” He was saying, “The transaction is complete.”

Close with Liturgies Reminding Class of Christ’s Redemptive Act for Them:

“Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left YOU without a kinsman-redeemer.” (Ruth 4:14)
